# API overview

> Authenticate with an ipcrazy API key and handle errors.

The ipcrazy API uses API keys created in the console. Today the API lets your application **verify that its key is valid**. Purchases, wallet and proxy management are done in the console.

<Warning>
  An API key is not a proxy credential. It never grants proxy access, and proxy usernames and passwords never work as API keys.
</Warning>

## Base URL

```text theme={null}
https://ipcrazy.com
```

All endpoints are under `/api/v1` and return JSON.

## API keys

1. Verify your email address. Unverified accounts cannot create keys.
2. Open **API Keys** in the console, enter a label and create the key.
3. Copy the key immediately. It starts with `ipc_live_` and is **shown only once**.

You can hold up to 10 active keys. Revoke a key in the console as soon as it is no longer needed or may have leaked; revoked keys stop working at once.

Send the key as a bearer token:

```bash theme={null}
curl https://ipcrazy.com/api/v1/access \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer ${IPCRAZY_API_KEY}"
```

Keep keys on your server. Do not embed them in browser code, mobile apps or public repositories.

## Responses and errors

Successful responses wrap the result in `data`. Every response includes a `trace_id`.

Errors use one shape:

```json theme={null}
{
  "error": {
    "code": "UNAUTHORIZED",
    "message": "Valid API key required",
    "retryable": false
  },
  "trace_id": "9f2c7a8e-0000-4000-8000-000000000000"
}
```

* Branch on `error.code`, not on `message`.
* Retry only when `retryable` is `true`, with backoff. A `429` response may include a `Retry-After` header.
* Quote the `trace_id` when you contact support.
